Bali Travel Sheet

Before you arrive, please read through some of our recommendations for safe & respectful tourism.

Left Hand (Respect)

Practice ahead of time not using your left hand for anything. In Bali, it is considered both dirty and extremely rude to use your left hand to point at someone, hand something over, or eat with.

Currency

While hotels and tourist restaurants do accept cards, we recommend bringing local currency (IDR) for smaller purchases such as restaurants, bars, massages, shopping, private car hires, etc.

Tap Water

Don’t drink the tap water! This includes brushing your teeth. Always use bottled water. A trusted company provides the ice at our hotels, so ordering drinks with ice is safe.

Apps to Download

  • Gojek – The Uber of Bali, which has very similar functionality. This app is well-trusted on the island, and rides on this app are more affordable than private drivers.

  • CBP MPC – Helps you skip the customs line to get back into the U.S.

Car & Scooter Rentals

Driving etiquette is very different in Bali. Car and scooter rentals can be dangerous if you don’t have experience with the traffic flow. The Gojek app is cheap, and we recommend using it instead of renting transportation!

In Bali, cars drive on the left side of the road.

PDA

PDA is frowned upon, so probably don’t kiss in public.
